Description
One of 4 small antique bronze ‘gold weights’, very likely from the Ashanti tribe in Ghana, West Africa. These little bronzes were often fashioned after local tribal villagers and were used to weigh gold. However, I have weighed them and as there’s no uniformity to their weight, I can’t be 100% certain that these were made for that purpose.
Nevertheless, they are hand made and each one is different. They would date at around the 1920’s or possibly earlier.
They are being sold individually, so have a look at the others. This one doesn’t balance on it’s own but a little piece of blue tack would hold it upright.
It measures 6.2cm (approx 2 1/4”) high.
