Description
This hand carved and very detailed box is of Chinese origin and was probably carved from bamboo wood, a popular medium for these objects.
The central carving is of monks with a building in the background and tree foliage. There is a monogram carved in the centre of this scene and the four corners of the lid have a floral design.
Part of the original label exists on the base and the inside of the box is lined with red velvet.
The clasp works well and it closes securely.
It measures 171 x 88 x 29mm. Dating from around 1900, the overall condition is very good.
A fabulous item for collectors of boxes or Chinese antiques.
